If you are thinking of making a route through Southeast Asia combining several countries, or want to make an express trip at Christmas, I will explain what to see in Thailand in 12 days.
Is it worth traveling to Thailand if I only have 12 days?
You'll see as if!
9 things to see in Thailand in 12 days
To see if it's worth a trip of 12 in Thailand, let's see the 9 things you can see and experience on a trip of this duration.
Bangkok: Wat Pho and the Royal Palace
Two of the most popular and spectacular temples in Bangkok, city for which you will surely spend on your trip through Thailand.
Although I like much more the areas with more nature in the country such as the north or the beaches of the south, visiting these temples and enjoying the characteristic architectural style is a must in your journey.
Trekking in Chiang Rai
If we only have 12 days in Thailand, 4 or 5 can be dedicated to discovering some corners of northern Thailand.
If you like nature and hiking you can catch a flight from Bangkok to Chiang Rai.
From here, you can enjoy excursions between tea fields and rice plantations, mountains and get to know the life of the tribes that live in remote villages in the jungle.
You have more information about a trekking in Chiang Rai in this post. (click here)
The white temple of Chiang Rai
Another of Chiang Rai's jewels: the Wat Rong Khun or white temple.
Surely if you were already thinking about traveling through Thailand you had already met him in some photos.
This temple is 13 kilometers from the center of Chiang Rai. So you can take advantage of your stay here and pay a visit.
It is actually much better than in photos!
And the blue temple or the Giant Buddha
Also in Chiang Rai, although they are not as popular as they are newer. Be sure to visit the blue temple or the Giant Buddha.
Three and a half hours by bus from Chiang Rai, is Chiang Mai, the capital of northern Thailand.
Although it is "the capital", it has nothing to do with Bangkok.
It has an architecture more similar to a large town and is much friendlier in terms of noise compared.
In Chiang Mai we can do a lot of things like continuing to know the Thai Buddhist architecture and culture knowing some of the most important temples in the country.
Also near Chiang Mai we can take excursions or bathe in some waterfalls in a privileged environment.
If you are looking for more ideas about Chiang Mai you can see:

Eat or cook Thai food
This no longer depends on whether you travel 6 days, 12 days or 18 days.
Come the time you come you can enjoy Thai food.
Coconut milk soup, chicken with cashews, rice or the very popular pad thai.
If you like to enjoy food and want to know a new way of cooking, you can take advantage of your stay in northern Thailand and do some cooking courses in English or Spanish.

What to see in Thailand in 12 days And the beach what?
Maybe you were wondering if in 12 days in Thailand you had time to visit good beaches.
The answer is yes!
Although to make the best use of time, what you would do would be to choose between the Krabi area, or the Koh Tao and Koh Phangan area.
Let's see some of the best beaches and activities for you to choose which coast you stay with!
From Chiang Mai you can find direct flights to Krabi.
If instead you leave from Chiang Rai, in this entry you can see how to go from Chiang Rai to southern Thailand.
If you opt for the Krabi area, from here you can discover a lot of islands and make worthwhile tours.
Although also many other excursions that are not worth so much.
One of the tours that are worth it is the one that goes to Koh Hong.
The tour goes through several islands and beautiful beaches.
As for example these of the photos:
If you choose this piece of coastline, you have more information on what to do in Krabi or Koh Phi Phi in 4 days so you can do cool tours and not do others that are a roll (expensive and overcrowded).
Snorkeling in Koh Tao
There are beautiful places to snorkel all over Thailand.
But none like Koh Tao.
It is where more points are concentrated where to find corals, tropical fish of all colors and, if you are lucky, huge sea turtles or small sharks.
That is why it is also where there are more diving schools.
If you opt for the East coast of Thailand, you can stop by and choose between doing an open water course, an introduction to scuba diving, or take a tour around the island of snorkeling and enjoy beaches, transparent waters and beautiful seabed.
Koh Nang Yuan
Also next to Koh Tao is Koh Nang Yuan.
You can meet her on a tour around the island, or take a taxi boat from Sairee beach and spend the day on this protected island.
If you choose Koh Tao, in this entry I recommend some accommodations on this island.
Party or some of the best beaches in Thailand in Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan is very popular for its world-famous full moon party or Full Moon Party.
But it also has some of the best beaches in Thailand like the ones you can see in this post.
Some examples are Koh Ma, Haad Yao or Sunrise Beach in Haad Rin.
Whether you are looking for a party and a backpacking atmosphere or prefer to be relaxed and dedicate yourself to an excursion around the island, beach and sunsets, in Koh Phangan you can find a perfect place for what you are looking for.
12 day route in Thailand
After seeing 8 reasons why it is worth traveling to Thailand for 12 days, we will see how to organize a route that allows us to make the most of the time without wasting much time in traveling.
Day 1: Bangkok
We arrived in Bangkok from our country of origin.
- We will stay in the Khao San Road area, for example in the Wild Orchid Villa, Lets ZZZ or Bangkok Sarah Posthel
- We will know the tourist area of Khao San, we will enjoy a good Thai massage and if we have time we will see the sunset behind the Wat Arun.
Days 2 to 5: Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai
Days 6 to 11: beach time
From Chiang Mai we have the possibility of catching a direct flight to Krabi or Surat Thani, where we can catch a ferry to Koh Tao and Koh Phangan.
You can find the flights in this link.
According to the recommendations of this same entry or other mentioned, whether you go to Koh Tao, Koh Phangan or Krabi, you can return by plane or in a combination of ferries and buses.
If you are looking for information on ferrysk schedules, trains and buses it is very easy to find it in the 12goasia search engine.
Days 11 and 12: Bangkok and back home
I recommend trying to spend at least one night in Bangkok before returning home, so that we do not run out of time to catch the flight in case there is a problem.
So we can spend the last night in Bangkok at the Silom Space Hostel.
It is very well connected by metro and trains, so we can walk through the Lumphini park or go to the shopping center area or to the airport quickly and economically.
