On Tuesday, August 13, the 2019 Butarque Festivities officially kicked off with the proclamation of the Leganés Handball Club, an entity that has historically supported grassroots and women's sports in the municipality, training hundreds of children and young local athletes every year.
The president of the entity, Claudia Sáez, and the historic player Ana Toledano signed in the honor book of the city with players from the club, members of the entity and the mayor of Leganés, Santiago Llorente; and the councilors of Festejos y Deportes, Fran Muñoz and Miguel Ángel Gutiérrez respectively.
Later the proclamation began from the Plaza Mayor, where along with the other councilors of the local government and the Corporation addressed those present. “The Leganés Handball Club is an example for all of us because they have promoted women's sports for decades. They have achieved great achievements for the Leganese sport. Total support for sports and especially for female sports, ”said the mayor in his speech. For his part, Fran Muñoz recalled that this year some changes have been introduced in the program that “we have to continue improving and agreeing with the entities of our city” and valued the “path of the Leganés Handball”.
The president of the Leganés Handball thanked the City Council for its "clear commitment to sport and its work in our city" and recalled that "sport is not just competition and results, it is a culture of effort, commitment, teamwork and respect for contrary. Meanwhile, Ana Toledano remembered the beginnings of the first women's team. “Now we are a great club. We have worked hard. Thousands of people enjoyed the concert of Despistaos The rest of the day was also marked by the presentation of the first female and male templates of the Leganés Sports Club, which followed thousands of people from the Plaza Mayor after the proclamation. An event that featured surprises, announcements of new additions to the entity and participation of girls and boys in the city. Later the Twister orchestra began.
Meanwhile, thousands of people also followed the concert of Despistaos in the Fairgrounds at the Fairgrounds. Before, the Leganesian group Gravity Control opened the concerts with their performance.
